Ohini Jonez is a pissed off artist who can't take it anymore. Born in the city-state of Brunswick, on the Planet Georgia in the Stankonia Star System (Dirty South), Ohini Jonez has had to tolerate a lot of bullshit. Monopoly's taking over the industry and breaking it down into 3 companies distributing music. Weak ass writers only talking about pussy and dick with nothing adding to the imagination. Dry political rhetoric from Black people who forgot Democrats fuck them too, only its with a condom so you feel a little less disrespected. Oh yeah, and people who pour paint on a canvas, let their six year old walk on it, and call it art. Just because your beats are off key don't make you Sun Ra, it means you're tone def. Just because you pause instead of saying like in your similes doesn't make you an artistic genius, it means you steal from Big Sean. If you paint and can't draw put some meaning behind it. And poets, please progress what the hell you say, because some of you don't, stuck in 1995 and shit... dildo's...
August 26th 1987 to Infinity I'm out this bitch like a one night stand....

Black Warhol

When will Edie commit suicide? And do you think she'll let us film it?
Can we catch her soul in a digital camera...
Or will the release of her spirit simply burn into the 8millimeter film of my mind?
Using my apathy to take the worlds self destruction in context
You all deserve it... Letting 15 minutes of fame and imaginary value
Trick you into thinking any of this is worth it at all
Contempt is the first sign of becoming a monster, under a full moon of fallacy
My genuine concern has transformed into a snarling malevolent pity
Its malevolence is designed so I don't feel pain and waste tears
That would only bead and slip off your plastic world
Despising my humanity for connecting me with silicone two legged impostors
Microchip wired technovirus infected digested potential
Shitted out listening to Top 40 in a cubicle pushing pencils
Shitted on by a system that only rewards minstrels
Poisoning the planet Mother Nature on her Menstrual
In this current state of PMS (Post Modern Society)
The law of Prehistory applied to life today
The law of the jungle is competition, meanwhile civilization
Is merely an Extinction Level Event away
Maybe the roaches can do better....

Cultural Evolution

Hunger is murder and war is time wasted while some needledick with a phallic complex
Finger fuck's someone's fate with the extension of his failed manhood
Feeling like I'm Che leading a revolution towards spiritual communism
Urging man to share in nothing but a sense of Oneness
Instead we're a Nation of numbed affection and neglected dreams
Satisfied with the material when the ties that bind us are not of this World
I seek this Infinite Energy in an Internal Deep Space
Making portals to the Soul out of Beat Breaks
Chopping loop's of truth and spitting 16's of Experience
While God man's the turntables on my Inner Galactic Stage
Hip Hop is my Culture and we were born in Poverty matured through Bloodshed
And now we emerge as a movement only lacking in direction
I suggest our Movement marches in the direction of Love
With just enough skepticism to separate the real from the Dream World

I was born in Puerto Rico but raised in Massachusetts since the age of one. Having grown up in Brockton, MA, there has always been a stigma that people who come from here either carry weapons or sell drugs. I did both. But there was a time in my life where I chose writing as a way of escapism and creativity. I began writing poetry as a teenager when I learned I was a girl with a resentful soul but a passionate heart. Being a person who never expressed my pain, I entered a world of words that allowed me to exist in a place where my voice didn’t have to be censored. I believe that expressing myself through writing, I am able to let out some of my most inner emotions, thoughts, and experiences without the apprehensiveness I have when I am verbally expressing myself. Most of the time I am an open book but when I write I free a side of myself that people will never experience in person. Yet, I am able to somehow feel a deeper connection with them. My poetry is real. It is the truth behind my actions. It is the purest essence of my soul.

My Letter

I am writing you this letter so that you could forgive me.
For not loving myself enough or believing you are still with me.
I have a heart with an altered love, full of falsified emotions.
I learned to hide behind walls and stay lost in time with images of a created motion.
I move forward, yet remain in the same position not having the strength to truly transition,
From the broken child to an immaculate woman
I remain in a time of chaos and never fully understanding the stability
I created in a world less devastated.
But still cried out and lost in a womanhood that trauma created.
I am writing you this letter so that you could forgive me,
For never truly using my gift and never allowing my turmoil to fully shift
Into the strength you have created within me because I allowed fear to embrace me.
To define me and leave me comfortable in a place I call home.
I am writing you this letter so that you can become me, and I you,
In this life I know that  can be pure and true.
Where my existence can shine through the light you have given me
And show me the way my heart knows you have paved for me.
So I can learn who I am and understand who you are, through me.
I am writing you this letter so that my lost soul could be found and your love can exist so profound.
Pound for pound, against my chest through the passion I possess
To make all things around me as genuine as all the things I confess.

Unsolidified Friendship

I spent years building a friendship that I hoped was solid enough to overcome anything.
Everything about us was about communication, trust and growth.
And one day it became more than most.
A simple kiss, a gentle touch, we became intimate and I thought it was love.
We grew close and spoke about the first time. To converse about the actions that took place, or perhaps did not.
As time passed I realized I felt something more,
This so called, friend, I so much adored.
We kissed, we touched, we loved….. we reached a level of intimacy that can either make or break our bond.
But he wasn’t “ready” for the realness. He just wanted to chill and hang on.
With the bond stronger we were still “friends”.
A little more than most, but with commitment still a ghost.
I was in love with him.
He made exceptions for me and reached levels of commitment he had never achieved.
Of course I thought he was ready for me.
I became so consumed in trying to figure everything out.
I started to ask questions, wanted more of his time, had a higher need.
I wanted his heart because his time was not stopping. Time was not stopping.
Discussions became disagreements and then became arguments.
 All of a sudden the bond felt broken. What I failed to realize was that it took time to feel these emotions;
I accommodated his reluctance. He was comfortable with the way things were.
The situation was different but satisfying, sufficient and ratifying.
Every time he called I was available.
Every time he needed me, I was accessible.
Each time the phone rang I answered.
 My life revolved around his.
But his revolved around him.
And in time, I learned a greater lesson than to loving this so called “friend”.
A girl becomes a woman when she learns to love herself more than she loves a man.

I Am Me

There is something about the air I breathe that blows my breath away.
It might be the scent of peace or the essence of my faith.
But I can feel it either way.
When I am misunderstood, criticized or ignored
I feel the strength to stay grounded and understand myself.
When I get angry, or frustrated, or even annoyed,
I take a breath and find myself in order to feel joy.
I am stuck between the when and why, the what and how, and what is to be.
But even through the trenches of dilemmas and uncertainty
I live through each moment because I am where I want to be.
Through the questions and lost expectations, moving passed them
and answering only to my own inquiries and leaving turmoil behind.
People look at me and see what they want to see.
I am called crazy, and selfish, sometimes even mean.
But the kindness I reveal goes unnoticed by most.
As long as I understand the road that I travel,
The voyage of my soul is my own.
So I can care less about their judgment of me,
Because at the end of each day I am who I want to be.

ELYSE NICOLE

I was born in Silver Spring, MD and raised in Hyattsville, MD for the majority of my life. I am the middle child I have two sisters--one of whom I am extremely close to, she's my everything. I have always enjoyed writing, it was always the easiest way for me to express myself. I remember when I really started writing a lot, it was when my Grandma died at age 11, and I had absolutely no clue as to how I was feeling, no clue as to how or when to express myself. I am twenty-six now and it is still and always will be my source of self explanation as well as self exploration. Salute, Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Weeping Willow

by ElyseNicole

I know why you weep,
it's because when you were me,
you loved unconditionally--to deep.

But the day you died,
love was why you cried,
He took everything u had inside,
You took everything in stride and pushed all his BS to the side,
you put aside your pride, every time he lied,
bared you soul and then died, an ultimate death,
one of suicide.

Weeping Willow I am here for you,
I see all of you,
everyday I cried it was for you,
seeing that weeping willow got me through
it got me over you.

Weeping willow
I have some words just for you,
because I don't want others to grow how you grew.
never let anyone take all of you
never let their lear's and jeers
bring out your fears.

Those lies they chose to tell you
were never equivalent to your tears.
Priceless you are
Smile through all the trials.

Weeping Willow
I am going to be your light,
to help give others sight,
with every weep,
we will leap.

No longer will your hope
be taken as a joke,
No more guns, knives, nor ropes.
Your going to give us all hope.

Dedicated to those who have committed suicide our weeping willows and those who think of it please rethink it, you are priceless just give yourself a chance tomorrow will never come if you don't let it.

Looking back at me

Looking at you and all I see
is me looking back at me
lost and scattered,
battered reflection of me
but damn it is still me
confused and can not see
exactly how I should be.

My reflection isn't the me
I thought I'd see
one in which I've never seen
I am not who I thought I'd be
lost, dying inside
but outside fierce as can be
reflections of a broken me
with an off track destiny.

How do I make it through?
Damn is this really what I brew.
How do I let go?
live and learn and move through
if only I never knew
you
the real you
I would have never lost sight
that urge to fight
now I got that bad instinct of flight.

Bogus as can be
but still I can't see
why it wasn't me
Elyse
who I chose to be
true to
and love above all else
because I knew too
I'd be, looking back at me.

Transition

Moving from point A to B
and I see that same old mess
Running to stay away from the test

Physical, Mental, Emotional triumph
if I can only make it past this hump
to get that umph
and take these fucked up lumps
in stride
keep my pride aside
and sit there through this bogus ride
I already let that old me die.

Transition is my only mission
to make it all the way to Z
is where I got to be.
I have released all the tension
all the stress
and put my soul and heart to rest
Lies and deception
lead me to this position
I got to refrain and obtain
all my goals
no matter what the tolls
no more flipping out
It's time to turn this mickeyflicka
out!

So I'm in transition
a work in progress
destined for success

I was born and raised in Pensacola, FL. I am a graduate of University of Central Florida.  I am the only child. I used to write a lot in a journal and I eventually started poetry at age 11 years old. I took it more seriously in high school (around 15 years old). It wasn't until August of 2010 that I decided to have my own site with my poetry. Ever since then, I've been writing even more. I don't have a particular topic I write about. I write what I feel ( whether its anger, pain, hurt, etc). I've always been a thinker and writing just allows me to express myself and to be me. I have been through a lot even though I am 22 years old. I want my poetry to be able to help others in whatever situation they may be in. Poetry is my passion. It took this year for me to realize how much poetry a apart of me. I am currently transitioning into a spoken artist. I know working hard at what you love or passionate about can only go far as what you make of it.

Thoughts

I use these lines to write my thoughts

but my thoughts aren’t as clear as it should.
I’m trying to fight off the emotions pulling me back
but it won’t stop haunting me, as if it would.
I’m being pushed and pulled constantly
as if I’m trying to fight for my last breath.
Thoughts, why do you consume me with your time?
give me at least a week to rest.
I toss & turn throughout the night
praying & hoping I can finally sleep.
My sleep keeps being interrupted by my thoughts
whispering, “invite me in, I can help you feel complete.”
I’m scared. I’m confused.
Should I embrace the unknowing or keep running?
Is this bad timing? Is it safe?
What should I do? Thinking…thinking..
So, I finally decide to surrender & embrace my thoughts
I’ve tried hiding but my thoughts always found me.
Wait…this can’t be what I’m running from
It’s too late to run. It’s too late to undo what I already see.
I don’t want to face the truth
Is this the beginning or the end?
So, I stop running and look behind me
Love, you have found me yet again.

Face 2 Face

I am looking in the mirror and a stranger is looking back
Its’ eyes stares back into mine but my eyes cannot keep the eye contact.
The face almost seems recognizable
But it holds a confused look with a puzzled look.
The skin seems rough, expressing pain from past experiences
That’s something I have endured, not wanting to expose my disguised innocence.
Somehow, I once felt what this stranger now feels, before
I was lost and holding onto hurt wanting to be happy and enjoy life more.
Now, I am looking in the mirror and the person I recognize is looking back
Stronger, happier, surpassing the fear that no longer last.
She looks down to the envelop that’s sealed and then she firmly kiss
Inside, she writes her goodbye to the stranger  she will no longer miss.
Goodbye to the lies, low self esteem, and lacking of confidence within herself
Goodbye to this stranger and I welcome a clear, view of my new self.

The Emotion I Have

My veins drips with fire
It has a rushing, heated temperature
Anger is the emotion I have
I try to brush it off, but the emotion only linger.
Negativity is uninvited to my mentality
Positivity tries to consume my sanity
Anger is the emotion I have
God, please grant me with serenity.
My temperature only rises
Like a hot day when the sun is up
Anger is the emotion I have
When the “don’t touch button” is pushed, the emotion of anger erupt.
Anger is here, the heart beats fast
Anger is here, how long will it last?
Anger is the emotion I have
Anger seems to show up when liars, deceivers, and betrayers like to disturb a peaceful path.
When anger surfaces
It is immature and with full threat
Not thinking clearly, only acting on emotion
Ignoring advice and not caring to hold it’s breath.
It seeks to hold grudges
It is likely to be impatient
It’s seeks to harm people, not caring what that may endeavor
Not wanting to manage its own anger but only wanting to continue it.
Laughter turns into cries
Pain increases hurt
Anger is the emotion I have
Anger disrupts happiness, is it really the worth?
Worth losing family, a friend, or a relationship?
If they died tomorrow, was anger even worth the risk?
Anger doesn’t care whenever the time comes for it to strike
But is anger worth losing their or even your life?
What about the worth of losing opportunities
Or worth of losing respect?
Ask yourself “is anger the emotion I ought to have?”
Its not worth it when nothing or no one is here, nothing or no one is left?
When we hurt we automatically want others to hurt when they have hurt us
But should we give anger the power to empower over us?
Think about it.
